The Little Bakery of Hopes and Dreams is the latest book in the Rabbits Leap series by Kellie Hailes. I would like to sincerely thank NetGalley and HQ Digital for my advance copy of this book.
When Josie moves to Sunnycombe, she does not expect to stay for long. Josie never settles anywhere, and refuses to call anywhere home. Her mother left on Christmas Eve when she was twelve years old, and she and her father have never fully recovered. Her father, who has succumbed to his sorrow, is distant, while Josie flits from town to town – refusing to form lasting relationships.
Josie gets a job in Abigail’s Bakery, which is run by the widower Callan. Callan’s wife Abigail passed away earlier in the year, leaving him as a single parent to their four year-old daughter Mia. Josie and Callan form a bond over their mutual disdain for the Christmas season and their love for Mia. As Josie becomes essential to the bakery’s operations, the friendship between her and Callan starts to deepen. Unfortunately for Josie, the village of Sunnycombe is very much Christmas-obsessed. The village holds special events throughout the season, which are lovely to read about.
The Little Bakery of Hopes and Dreams is a heart-warming story about the power of family and relationships, both romantic and otherwise. While the author’s writing style is not quite my cup of tea, there is no doubt that she can tell a story. The chemistry between Josie, Callan, and Mia is strong, and I would love to see more of these characters in the future. It is a charming, delightful read – perfect for the Christmas season.
The most magical time of the year…
Josie Donnelly spends most years pretending that Christmas doesn’t even happen! So, she hopes that the sleepy village of Sunnycombe will be the perfect place to escape the festivities…
Or so she thought! Spending time with (far too handsome) bakery owner Callan Stewart and his young daughter, Mia, makes her long for the family Christmas she’s missed out on.
Could the little bakery on the hill be her own recipe for a happy ever after this year…?
Kellie Hailes has wanted to be an author since the age of five. She lives in New Zealand, and is the author of six novels in the Rabbits Leap series.
The Little Bakery of Hopes and Dreams is a charming, feel-good read that is perfect for the Christmas season. It features a lovely cast of characters, and you will want to pack up and move to the fictional Sunnycombe immediately.
